POLICE INVITATION OF EPU LEADERS: A DIRECT ASSAULT ON EKID COLLECTIVE WILL AND A GRAVE ABUSE OF STATE POWER.

The Ekid Nation has been jolted by the shocking invitation extended by the Akwa Ibom State Police Command to the President General of Ekid People’s Union (EPU), Dr. Samuel Udonsak, and the Secretary General, Sir (Barr.) Mkpisong Dan-Abia, to appear before the State Intelligence Department on Friday, January 9, 2026, over an alleged β€œsecurity report” for which no crime has been disclosed.

Let it be stated clearly and without ambiguity: neither Dr. Udonsak nor Sir Mkpisong Dan-Abia has committed any crime known to law. Their only β€œoffence” is that they lawfully and responsibly signed a Caveat Emptor issued by EPU, warning the public against the secretive and primitive alienation of portions of the Stubbs Creek Forest Reserve (Akoiyak Ekid), ancestral land of the Ekid people, without consultation, consent, or recognition of the rightful landowners.

This police invitation cannot be viewed in isolation.

During a recent public outing in Eket, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, openly descended into verbal abuse against the President General of EPU for issuing the said caveat.

In an unprecedented and reckless outburst, the Governor labelled the legitimate actions of EPU as β€œterrorism” and went further to threaten to unleash the so-called β€œforce of nature” on Dr. Udonsak, the recognized mouthpiece of the Ekid Nation.

It is therefore reasonable, logical, and compelling to conclude that this police invitation is politically motivated, designed to intimidate, harass, and silence the leadership of EPU for daring to speak truth to power.

We categorically reject this attempt to criminalize advocacy, suppress dissent, and weaponize state institutions against a peaceful, law-abiding people.

Ekid Nation is not against development. What we demand is justice, due process, transparency, and respect for ancestral land rights, as guaranteed by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and international norms.

We view the invitation, and any attempt at arrest or illegal detention of Dr. Samuel Udonsak and Sir Mkpisong Dan-Abia, as a direct intimidation and harassment of the Ekid people.

These men are not acting in personal capacity; they are elected spokespersons of the Ekid Nation. Any action taken against them is an action taken against the collective dignity, voice, and rights of Ekid people.

Let it therefore be clearly understood:

You cannot arrest justice.

You cannot detain truth.

You cannot intimidate an entire nation by harassing its messengers.

The Ekid people are civilized, peace-loving, and law-abiding, but we will never be cowed into submission by executive intimidation or misuse of police powers.

We call on the Nigeria Police Force to act professionally and remain neutral.

Civil society organizations, the legal community, and the media to closely monitor this situation.
